Frenzal Rhomb ProfileEarlier this month, Frenzal Rhomb fans were bummed at the news that the band would have to withdrawal from the recent Descendents tour they were supporting due to "a sudden and unexpected illness" to one of the guys. Little did we realise how serious the situation was.
On the band's Facebook page, frontman Jason Whalley has revealed he underwent surgery on Valentine's Day to remove a parastite that had infected his brain. In the post, Whalley describes that the "offending alien" in his head was diagnosed as an egg from a pig tapeworm that he most probably contracted on one of his visits to Central America.
The frontman suffered two seizures on January 25 after a gig which prompted a swift journey to the hospital via an ambulance. Whalley feared the worst, with the Doctors giving him two scenarios. "Worst case would be a malignant melanoma, the best would be a benign tumour or an infection of some kind. I didn't feel a lot of positivity from the neurosurgery team," he said in the post.
After the three hour surgery and an extended stay in hospital "due to picking up two separate infections post operation, headaches, fevers and the like" Whalley is now home and being well looked after by family and friends.
Good to hear to he hasn't lost any of his sense of humour in the process, already throwing out a few possible pig tapeworm inspired names he should go by on the next FR album - Ham Solo anyone?
