A former X-Factor contestant was arrested this morning in Bowraville, NSW over the death of a baby in 2018.

As reported by The Sydney Morning Herald, Mitchell Callaway was taken to Macksville Police Station and charged with the murder of a 9-month-old girl.

Emergency services were called to a house in Binnaway, NSW on the morning of July 23, 2018 following reports of a 9-month-old girl that was unresponsive. The baby was rushed to hospital but passed away.

After recently receiving new information, detectives, who had been investigating since the death, executed a crime scene warrant at a Binnaway home last month, which ultimately led to the arrest of Callaway this morning.

Callaway appeared on season three of The X-Factor, placing seventh with Natalie Bassingthwaighte as his mentor.

He has been refused bail and is expected to appear at Macksville Local Court today.
