And they've enlisted meme star/'80s icon Erik Estrada to promote their upcoming Mexican shows

US stadium-fillers Foo Fighters have announced two live shows later this year in Mexico, ending the hiatus announced by band founder Dave Grohl just over a year ago.

A post revealing the dates went up on Foo Fighters website yesterday - two shows, mid-December with The National.

The dates and ticket information were followed by a promo clip on the band's YouTube channel. Paying homage to dubbed Mexican exploitation cinema, it even features star of '80s cop show CHiPs, Erik Estrada - he was most recently a star of a string of memes.

Just last month band member Chris Shiflett told Rolling Stone that the Foos would begin recording a new album "at the beginning of next year."

In the break, Shiflett spent time playing with his honky tonk band The Dead Peasants, while Grohl concentrated on his Studio City documentary, performing with Paul McCartney and drumming on five tracks for Queens Of The Stone Age's ...Like Clockwork. Taylor Hawkins was recently seen playing Iggy Pop in the critically-panned movie about punk club CBGB.
