2025 is shaping up to be the year of Folk Bitch Trio, who are today announcing the release of their debut album, Now Would Be A Good Time.

For fans of the Melbourne/Naarm group, the news of an album has been a long time coming. The announcement arrives with the release of a gorgeous, tender new single called Cathode Ray, filled with the trio’s signature harmonies and alt-folk storytelling.

It’s like what indie icon Phoebe Bridgers previously said of the group: that they’re like “Boygenius if it was from the 40s or something.”

Folk Bitch Trio’s Gracie Sinclair said of the new single, “It expresses a feeling of being trapped in myself, and wanting to break out of that so violently that I’m literally talking about opening up a body viscerally. It’s about frustration, and knowing there’s no cheap thrill that’s going to fix that.”

Now Would Be A Good Time will be released via Jagjaguwar on Friday, 25 July. The album shares “vivid, visceral stories” from a band that makes music that sounds familiar to what you’ve heard before, but with their own twists.

The trio combine Americana, classic rock, and beautiful balladry, all while offering modern and youthful spins with songs that explore dissociative daydreams, breakups, sexual fantasies, and media overload—all subjects anyone in their twenties or thirties can relate to.

For their debut album, Folk Bitch Trio workshopped the songs on tour, with their shared connection the core focus. Now Would Be A Good Time was recorded in Auckland with Tom Healy (Marlon Williams, Tiny Ruins) last winter, the band highlighting their voices and guitar playing with minimalist musical arrangements.

You can pre-order/pre-save the album here.

In addition to announcing the album, Folk Bitch Trio have announced a tour of Australia and New Zealand for this September. Tickets will be available via the group's website on Friday, 16 May, at 10 am local time.
