More The Flaming Lips More The Flaming Lips

It was just shy of 50 years ago, not quite today, that Sgt Pepper taught his band to play. Now, venerated US psych-rock torchbearers The Flaming Lips are set to interpret those lessons for themselves, with the just-announced forthcoming release of their Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band tribute album, With A Little Help From My Fwends.

Due for release on October 28 through Warner Bros Records, pre-orders for the album open today via iTunes. People who take up the early ordering opportunity will be rewarded with an instant download of the Flaming Lips' version of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, featuring none other than tongue enthusiast Miley Cyrus and shiny-headed songsmith Moby.

The album itself promises not just those cameos but contributions from Electric Würms (a Flaming Lips side project featuring Steven Drozd and Wayne Coyne), as well as, in typically intriguing and enigmatic Lips fashion, “many others”.

A portion of proceeds from the album will go to Oklahoma City-based non-profit The Bella Foundation, which lends a much-needed helping hand to low-income, elderly and terminally ill pet owners in the city.
