"I think their nuance and creative force is unparalleled here."

For every WA band that hits the big time, there are a handful of others with just as much talent taking to the stage each week, and every now and then a line-up comes together that showcases those undiscovered local gems – the annual North Freo Pub Crawl being a prime example.

It kicks off this Saturday, January 21, in Fremantle, headlined once again by The Love Junkies. We had bassist Harley Barnaby give us a list of must-see acts.

Hideous Sun Demon

Hideous Sun Demon is comprised of some of my favourite Perth musicians. I think their nuance and creative force is unparalleled here. Their live show can't be described. Beautiful people.

Pat Chow

Vocalist Ben Protasiewicz has this insane ability to convey complex emotion with precise simplicity. I wish I could write basslines like Goldy, and Jamie is really good at quitting Ursula.

Rag N Bone

I've heard the impending Rag N Bone album like three times now and it keeps giving, it's such a good release. Like, really good. Definitely some more of my favourite Perth musicians. Seasoned veterans when it comes to a live show. Jamie quit Ursula but I love him to bits.

Childsaint

Childsaint fuck me up when I see them live. A normal day for me usually means at least an hour of yearning for more Childsaint.

Heads Of Charm

Heads Of Charm really blew me away the first time I saw them, in a burger joint in Kyneton. If you miss these dudes, you won't know it but you played yourself. The calibre of songwriting is formidable and Zaire's bass tone is its own member of the band. Lub these boys.
