Christine Anu, Baker Boy & More Join 2021 BLAKSOUND Conference

BLAKSOUND kicks off next month!

First Nations music conference BLAKSOUND has unveiled its full 2021 line-up, with some of the country’s best artists and groundbreakers today added to next month’s virtual event.

The 100% First Nations youth-led music conference will now also feature Christine Anu, Troy Cassar-Daley, Ziggy Ramo, Baker Boy and Alice Skye, among others, alongside previously announced speakers Naomi Wenitong, Emily Wurramara, BARKAA, Bianca Hunt, DRMNGNOW and Rhianna Patrick.

Co-curated by Sycco, Jem Cassar-Daley, DOBBY and Loki Liddle alongside Digi Youth Arts Lead Artistic Director Alethea Beetson, BLAKSOUND will feature the following artists and speakers from 6-8 September:

Alethea Beetson, Alice Skye, Aunty Marlene Cummins, Baker Boy, BARKAA, Becca Hatch, Bianca Hunt, Bow & Arrow, Christine Anu, DOBBY, DRMNGNOW, Emily Wurramara, Fred Leone, GLVES, Jem Cassar-Daley, Jimblah, Kobie Dee, Loki Liddle, Maggie Munn, Marlene Cummins, Naomi Wenitong, Nooky, Patricia Adjei, SOVBLKPSSY (Juanita Sumner), Pablo Barnes, Rachael Hocking, Rhianna Patrick, Shaun Allen (Shal), Sycco, Tishiko King, Troy Cassar-Daley and Ziggy Ramo

Keynotes, panels and workshop topics have also been revealed today, with Turning Our Backs To The State, From One Generation To The Next, What Does It Mean To Be The Youngest Generation Of The Oldest Surviving Culture In The World? and F#$K The System, We Own Our Stories among the panels set to feature.

The final night of the event will also include an artist showcase and closing party from 4ESYDNEY FESTIVAL, hosted by Matty Mills and featuring Nooky, Bow & Arrow, Becca Hatch and Kobie Dee.

"I'm so pumped to be part of BLAKSOUND! Having a dedicated space for Mob to showcase and learn within our own circle is so powerful and necessary for artistic direction in our community,” DOBBY said.

“I'm most keen for young mob who will be taking notes and finding inspiration from our showcasing and Legacy artists.”

Sycco added: "BLAKSOUND is one of the most exciting events I have been a part of this year! The conversations that will be had are going to be so important and special. I feel so lucky and grateful to have been a part of curating this with such talented beautiful humans!”
