The first part of the bill has been announced six weeks early.

We weren't expecting an announcement from the people at the Darwin Festival until Wednesday 26 June, but the organisers have decided to drop four of the festival's biggest shows on us a whopping six weeks early.

Today they have announced performances from Archie Roach, You Am I, Julia Morris and La Soirée, which seems quite an impressive start to the festival

On Friday 9 August, just the second day of the festival, Australian rock royalty You Am I will play their classic Hi Fi Way and Hourly, Daily albums back-to-back at The Ampitheatre, Georges Green.

Australia's first lady of comedy, Julia Morris, will perform shows at The Playhouse, Darwin Entertainment Centre on Saturday 10 August and Sunday 11; the star of House Husbands no doubt set to attract big crowds for her uproarious performances.

La Soirée returns to the Darwin Festival this year due to incredibly high demand and they will put on a whole stack of shows while they are back in town; they kick off with a preview on Thursday 15 August then perform shows from Friday 16 August through to Sunday 25 with a break on the Monday. They'll also perform two shows on the Saturdays and Sundays of their run.

Last and most certainly not least is the great Archie Roach, who will bring his stunning Into The Bloodstream show to the Darwin Festival on the final night of proceedings, hitting The Ampitheatre, George's Green on Sunday 25 August. The show has been a hit at many festivals around the country over the past year or so, the 13-piece band and ten-piece choir bringing these stunning songs to life.

The Darwin Festival takes place from Thursday 8 August through to Sunday 25. The full line up will be announced on Wednesday 26 June.

Tickets for the four announced events are on sale right now.
