"Extremes in music making."
Mona Foma may have only unveiled two acts as part of its first 2020 announcement, but next year’s event is already shaping up to be a big one.
The Launceston-based summer festival will take place in Launceston from 11-20 January, with renowned Italian classical pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi and LA electronic musician, DJ and film director Flying Lotus announced ahead of the full program release.
Einaudi will bring his immersive new project, Seven Days Walking, “a seven-part cycle inspired by a winter’s walk in the Alps”, to Princess Theatre on January 19, while Flying Lotus will offer up psychedelic audio-visual performance Flying Lotus 3D, which will take place at the Festival Hub later that same day.
“Ludovico and FlyLo represent extremes in music making,” Mona Foma curator Brian Ritchie said.
“Ludovico, meditative and interrogating, FlyLo, an immersive sound and visual spectacle. Literally a spectacle because you’ll need your 3D specs. They are bookends in a program that can embrace such polarity in the name of unbridled individual expression.”
Einaudi will also perform two shows at the iconic Sydney Opera House following the Mona set, as well as an additional show in Adelaide.
