Vera Blue ProfilePort Macquarie favourite Festival Of The Sun has unveiled its 2018 initiatives; including news that this year’s festival will remove single-use plastic.
Food trucks at the event will only sell cans and all food will be served on recyclable materials, cutting out plastic water bottles, cutlery and plates, while also offering cold water stations around the festival and urging punters to reuse bottles or bring one to fill up.
If cold water stations weren’t enough of an incentive, camping punters with clean sites at the end of the festival will receive prizes and priority camping spots in 2019.
FOTSUN will also launch ECanOmy this year, which will allow festivalgoers to trade cans for vouchers that can be used for food, merch, games and more.
“As a boutique festival that has a long-standing history of being BYO, FOTSUN is super proud to be hosting a range of sustainable initiatives,” festival director Simon Luke said.
“With crowds sitting at 3,000, we definitely think it is doable and achievable to be an environmentally friendly and conscious festival and we strongly believe our punters are on the same page!
“We are excited to be providing our customers with an array of services and support again this year that bring a communal vibe FOTSUN is known for.”
The festival will also bring back Down To Test, an onsite STI test which 580 punters used last year (11% of the crowd).
The news comes as FOTSUN adds local act Nana Klumpp to the line-up, joining Vera Blue, Pond, Winston Surfshirt, Skegss at Port Macquarie Breakwall Tourist Park from 13 – 15 December.
