Songs To Share With Dad This Father's Day

Some of these will pull at the heartstrings...

The bond between a father and their child/children is a special one and as per the norm, Aussie families will celebrate their dads this Sunday for Father's Day.

Musicians have long been singing about the paternal parent relationship. From the sweet and sentimental tributes such as the Luther Vandross classic Dance With My Father and Steve Wonder's ode to his daughter in Isn't She Lovely to the 'old man needs to let me live my life goddammit' anthem Papa Don't Preach from Madonna.

Eric Clapton has made two very famous and highly emotional songs about fatherhood. My Father's Eyes lamented the fact that the musician never met his own dad before his passing in 1985. It also touches on Clapton's son Connor, who tragically passed away at age 4.

His son's brief life was also the inspiration behind Tears In Heaven, probably Clapton's most iconic song.

Even rapper and mogul Jay Z got all soft and sweet about being a pops on his track Glory, which was released just after the birth of his daughter Blue Ivy. In the song, Hova makes plenty of references to his wife Beyoncé too, calling Blue the child of his Destiny. Who said all rappers were tough guys, hey?

Melbourne folk-rockers Weddings Parties Anything wrote a great anthem to being a dad back in 1991 with their classic hit Fathers Day. There's a beautiful message to the track, with simple but heartfelt lyrics like But every Saturday is Father's day/you might call it sad/you might call me mad/but I've got one who calls me Dad - but it's also a really awesome Aussie rock song too.

And here are plenty more Father's Day inspired tunes to listen to while you're probably receiving your 38th pair of socks and knocking back a few special beers this Sunday...
