Family Throw Support Behind Scribe After Rapper Hands Himself In To Police

The family of New Zealand artist Scribe (real name Malo Luafutu) have thrown their support behind the rapper after he turned himself in to police yesterday, relating to drug and weapon offences. 

The 38-year-old hip hop artist was wanted by police since he failed to appear in court last month following the April arrest. 

As Stuff reports, Luafutu's family were disappointed that police issued a statement urging the public to not approach him if spotted. 

"We as a family know what's in his heart and he's not this hardened type that he's made out to be," Luafutu's uncle, Lino Luafutu, said.

"He is who he is. He's a big personality, he's had that success and he's fallen from grace. He's not the only one in the world that's happened to."

The rapper, who rose to fame in the early '00s, publicly announced he would be entering rehab just days before his arrest in April.

"As long as he's got the support and love from his family he's got every chance of coming around," Lino Luafutu said.

"He's young enough to make a good change in his life. It's up to him, but he's still got his family who are willing to go into bat for him and support him."
