Wollongong surf pop duo Hockey Dad have some amazing news to share with their loyal fans this morning — the band have signed label and agency deals in the US, securing a future that is sure to be bright Stateside.

Brooklyn-based Kanine Records, home to bands like Grizzly Bear, Chairlift and Surfer Blood, has snapped up the band after catching the band at BIGSOUND and CMJ, signing them on to release their debut album this year.

Kanine Records' Lio Kanine said, "For my first trip to Australia, I had simple goals: feed some kangaroos, hold a koala bear, drink some good ales, visit some beautiful beaches and catch some cool bands. The main reason for my visit was BIGSOUND Festival of course.

"Sifting through hundreds of bands before I arrived, there was one in particular that I kept coming back to. Their name Hockey Dad was intriguing, and their single Can’t Have Them simply wouldn’t leave my head. Upon seeing them live in Brisbane, I was pleasantly surprised to find two young artists having a good time above all else. Their energy was infectious, and their ace songwriting didn't hurt either. It took about all of 30 seconds to realize, I must have them."

Hockey Dad have also signed with Chicago's Flower booking agency, alongside the likes of Ratatat and Frightened Rabbit, with the agency's Brianna Liebling saying of the band, "They are young and fresh and their laid back attitude translates to the crowd with ease. It’s hard not to dance along and have a good time when watching Hockey Dad perform.

"They are talented, fun and fresh and I’m so stoked to bring them stateside and watch them take over."

The band will soon head to the US for SXSW, followed by a slew of US and European tour dates.
