Poor Moon will release their debut album next month

Father John Misty isn't the only former Fleet Foxes member releasing new tunes. The band's bass guitarist Christian Wargo and keyboardist Casey Wescott have teamed with brothers Ian and Peter Murray to release a self-titled LP under the name Poor Moon.

The indie folk outfit was formed through exploration of years of solo writing by Wargo, and are set make their debut release next month. In addition to Fleet Foxes, Wescott has worked alongside Wargo in Pedro the Lion and Crystal Skulls.

“I've known Christian for so long, and have loved his songwriting as long as I've known him,” said Wescott. "There was a point where he'd e-mailed us a couple of albums' worth of songs…There was so much material sitting on iPods and in mailboxes, more ideas than could fit on one record."

With the writing taken care of, the songs were fully realised when the band began playing and recording together. The release handles some of heavy topics of Christian Wargo's life through deceptively simple songs with thoughtful vocal harmonies. As Poor Moon member Ian Murray hints: “There's often a paradox between what a song sounds like and what we're actually talking about”.
