Eric Idle ProfileEric Idle has cancelled his forthcoming Australian tour due to health issues, promoters FANE Australia announced today.
“It is with great regret that, on the advice of my doctors, I must withdraw from my planned ‘An Evening of Idle Conversation’ tour of Australia and New Zealand,” the Monty Python founding member said.
Idle continued, “They are some of my favourite places to play, and this isn't a decision I take lightly, but when the doctors talk, I must listen. My apologies to the venues and to all those who were coming to see me.
“Thank you for your support, as ever, and I will do all I can to get back there soon, health permitting. Meanwhile, you can still read my book.”
A press release notes that refunds will be automatically processed.
Eric Idle announced his Australia and New Zealand tour last month, which would have taken place in November and December. He was set to appear in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney, Adelaide, and Perth, as well as Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington.
The tour promised stories from Idle’s incredible life in entertainment, from the great, giddy heights of Monty Python to his experiences with childhood trauma. He was expected to showcase life’s highs and lows as he launched his new memoir, Idle in Provence: A Brief History of Thyme.
Idle has been part of cultural touchstones such as Britain’s favourite funeral song, Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, and the Tony Award-winning musical Spamalot.
Idle was expected to share candid memories of those he’s loved and lost, including beloved figures such as George Harrison and Robin Williams. The shows were billed as an unscripted, in-conversation series of events that fans wouldn’t want to miss.
He last toured Australia in 2024, when the Monty Python member presented his ‘one-man musical’ Always Look on the Bright Side of Life, Live!
