Elton John was forced to cut his show short last night due to severe weather.

The legendary UK artist was performing at Rochford Wines in Victoria's Yarra Valley (about one hour from the Melbourne CBD) on Friday night when a "heavy downpour" occurred.

10 Daily have reported that John initially played for about 10 minutes during the downpour with stage assistants attempting to shield him with ponchos but had to exit the stage about 95 minutes into the show.

Promoters A Day On The Green have shared a statement via Facebook, saying "we too are upset about the impact of the weather" at the evening's show.

"Unfortunately due to tonight’s short but heavy downpour that occurred 95 minutes into Elton John's set resulting in damage to musical instruments and monitors on stage, the show could not continue," it reads.
