"There are people who have lost their lives and their homes."
Elton John has announced he will donate $1 million to bushfire relief efforts at a show in Sydney last night.
The music legend made the announcement to a packed out crowd at Qudos Bank Arena during the closing moments of the concert.
"There are people out there who have lost their lives trying to save homes. There are people who have lost their lives and their homes," John said.
"And lastly, there's the plight of the animals. A loss of their habitat that frankly is on a biblical scale and heart breaking.
Standing with Australia 🇦🇺❤️🇦🇺Seeing the fires raging across Australia have left me heartbroken. This tragedy has taken lives, homes and devastated so much wildlife. At my Sydney show last night, I pledged $1 million dollars to support the Bushfire Relief Fund. God bless, Australia. 🇦🇺❤️ Elton xx

"Therefore, tonight I will be pledging $1 million dollars to support the bushfire relief fund."
He continued, "This is my bit towards it and I love Australia so much And to those who have lost their homes, God bless. I hope that your life will be repaired very, very soon. I want to say thank you Australia again and God bless."
John's pledge follows a number of donations made by artists in Australia and abroad, including Pink and the Minogue family, who have both donated $500,000, and local comic Celeste Barber's social media campaign which has raised almost $45 million.
John's farewell tour of Australia will return to Qudos Bank Arena on Thursday night. For more details, click on theGuide.
