Ed Kuepper is commemorating an incredible 50 years of music, today announcing a national tour to celebrate the milestone and the release of three albums – one of which is a live album.

The Brisbane-based artist, whose work in The Saints pre-empted The Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Damned, is unveiling three albums on Friday, 24 July, via Remote Control Records. The new live single, Also Sprach The King Of Euro-Disco, is out now.

The live album, The Exploding Universe – Live, was recorded at Melbourne’s National Theatre in 2023. The tour marked Kuepper’s first shows focused on his solo output with a full band in over a decade.

The album will drop as a double LP and a single CD. During the show, Kuepper was joined by a stellar line-up of musicians, including longtime collaborator and drummer Mark Dawson, bassist Peter Oxley (Sunnyboys), keyboardist Alister Spence, and brass arranger Eamon Dilworth.

In addition to the live album, Kuepper is revisiting two records from the ‘90s.

Today Wonder, released in 1990, was his fourth solo album. It’s long been sold out on vinyl and CD and has never been available on streaming services. Now, a new CD is dropping next month, along with seven bonus live tracks.

In the early ‘90s, Kuepper worked under the band name The Aints and released the album, Autocannibalism, in 1992. The record has never been released on vinyl, and, like Today Wonder, the CD edition will arrive with plenty of bonus material. Plus, fans can listen to the album on streaming services from next month.

“In a way, The Aints were a reverse/parallel project to Today Wonder,” Kuepper explained. “A very similar way of looking at the material, though using different tools, garnered a very different sonic outcome. First time ever on vinyl pop pickers... direct from the original tapes.”

You can pre-order/pre-save the live album here, Today Wonder here, and Autocannibalism here.

Kuepper’s upcoming tour begins at the Avoca Beach Theatre on Thursday, 30 July. It continues with dates in Canberra, Wombarra, Adelaide, St Kilda, Barwon Heads, Fremantle, Brisbane, Coffs Harbour, Murwillumbah, and concludes at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Thursday, 27 August.
