DZ Deathrays ProfileBeloved Queensland-bred rockers DZ Deathrays have kicked off the 2015 Like A Version programme on triple j with a bass-less rendition of '90s dancefloor classic Addicted To Bass, originally recorded by Josh Abrahams and Amiel Daemion, aka Puretones.
While 2014 was dominated by the well-intentioned but objectively terrible All About That Bass, by Meghan Trainor, 2015 will hopefully be the year that everyone remembers Addicted To Bass existed first — since 1998, in fact — and is a way better song in pretty much every regard, so if there's going to be any pro-bottom-end track front-and-centre in the public consciousness, at least DZ are doing their part to make sure that it's Abrahams and Daemion's classic (as it rightfully should be).
Although the Brisbane outfit's rendition physically lacks a bass, there are pedals and effects enough to ensure the sonic booty on offer is so big and boisterous that Sir Mix-A-Lot would have a frigging conniption, so quit reading and get rocking with the clip below.
