Dune Rats Lead Party-Hearty Line-Up For The Foundry Relaunch

The do-over begins on 20 August

Resurgent Brisbane venue The Foundry is making the final preparations ahead of its re-emergence into the world this month, unveiling local stoner heroes Dune Rats as the headline act for their eagerly awaited relaunch party on Thursday, 20 August.

The night serves something of a dual celebratory purpose, not only heralding the return of The Foundry after its nascent days were cut short following significant setbacks earlier this year, but also welcoming the brand new street-level Foundry Records to the growing complement of commerce and creativity regularly pumping out of the building, a joint record shop/bar/cafe/performance space that brings yet another level of excellence to the fledgling hub.

The new store brings an impressive pedigree along with it, being managed by Music Industry Inside Out founder and local music champion Martine Cotton, and will see its launch presided over by veteran record shopkeep Simon Homer, who many will remember from defunct-but-never-forgotten record store Skinny's Music.

Joining the Dunies — who are fresh off crushing it at last month's Splendour In The Grass festival, where they were compared to Nirvana by Dandy Warhols frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor — for the relaunch evening's festivities is a fine crop of contemporary sluggers, comprising Palms, Orphans Orphans and Major Leagues, as well as a surprise acoustic act to officially open the Foundry Records stage downstairs.

The Foundry aren't just planning to come back with a bang and then rest on their laurels, however; many different plans and projects are in the works, including Yowie — "a brand new, cutting-edge club night concept for Thursday nights" — and Strictly Speaking, on Sundays, billed as Brisbane's only regular live hip hop night. Plus, the venue has just dropped the schedule of acts coming through the door for the next few weekends, with Love Signs nabbing first honours with their single launch on Friday, 21 August, with special guests Emerson SnoweCheers G'day and Full Flower Moon.

Future gigs include Magic Bones (28 August), DJ Black Amex's Murder On The Dance Floor (29 August) and the inaugural Strictly Speaking event, featuring Tailor MadeGallu$Louziek and Gratis Minds.

Tickets for The Foundry's Relaunch Party on 20 August are strictly limited, and on sale now via OzTix. For more information, see The Foundry's website, theGuide or check The Music App.
