Dandy Warhols Call Dune Rats 'Nirvana But Fun' After Seeing Splendour Set

The Queensland stoner heroes have been given the stamp of approval by Courtney Taylor-Taylor

More Dune Rats More Dune Rats

Brisbane's Dune Rats have been given a solid nod from US alt-rock vets The Dandy Warhols off the back of their rambunctious spot at Splendour In The Grass, with Warhols frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor taking to social media at the weekend to sling some praise to the impressively functional pot-lovers.

In fact, in his Instagram post — since retweeted by Dune Rats, so at least the compliment was received — he didn't just "sling praise"; that cheapens it, honestly. Taylor-Taylor, rather, went so far as to compare the band to grunge/rock/counter-culture icons Nirvana... "but fun" — which is either a big endorsement for the Aussies or a withering statement about Dave Grohl's mopey phase. We're betting the latter. He's definitely not wrong on the part about them being super-fun, at any rate.

It's an opinion you can trust, too, given the band carried a "druggy sophistication" all their own to the Amphitheatre on Saturday night, mere hours after Dune Rats had made the stage reek of post-teen spirit and THC.
