Dua Lipa Sued By Reggae Band Over 'Levitating' Similarities

Grammy and Brit Award-winning British hitmaker Dua Lipa is heading to court after a case was filed this week by Floridian reggae band Artikal Sound System alleging that Lipa's global hit Levitating has been lifted from their own track Live Your Life. 

The case could be a major financial headache for her and her label Warner Music if successful, with the allegedly offending track racking up over a billion streams and counting. The song was 2021's #1 song on the American Billboard charts and achieved a not-too-shabby #5 position here in Australia's end of year ARIA list. 

Artikal Sound System allege they are owed profits from the song and are requesting a jury trial from the courts. The case alleges that it is 'highly unlikely' that the songs were written independent of each other, given the similarities. Artikal Sound System's new album Welcome To Florida was released last month.

Neither Dua Lipa or Artikal Sound System have commented publicly on the dispute.
