“We think James Young is a very dodgy fucker, but he said he’d let us in for free at Cherry and get us on Meredith this year."
Crazy Melbourne (via-Cairns) rockers Drunk Mums have secured the services of the owner and booker of that city's Cherry Bar and the man behind the Cherry Rock music marketing company James Young as manager effective immediately.
If the statements given to media by both parties are anything to go by, they will be a pretty excellent match for one another.
Young admitted he felt his time as a band manager had come to an end.
“I promised myself I'd never manage another band,” Young said. “No money in it. Babysitting precocious cunts. Fuck that. Then I saw Drunk Mums at Big Sound in Brisbane last year. They are the most exciting, twisted art rock band I've seen since Eddie Current Suppression Ring.

“They got under my skin and like a leech they've sucked my blood ever since. I can't shake them. Fuck it, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. I'm up for the trip with these guys, and with Drunk Mums you know it's gonna be some kinda wild-arsed trip that's for sure. So yes, I now manage Drunk Mums. Look out!”
Dean Whitby from the band outlined the group's reason for signing on with Young.
“We think James Young is a very dodgy f*cker, but he said he'd let us in for free at Cherry and get us on Meredith this year. And we've got an awesome follow-up album in the works that we think deserves to find a new, bigger audience, so let's see what happens. We have been let into Cherry, so that's a good sign…”
The band play Cherry Bar tonight with Vice Grip Pussies.
