Fuck to the yes: Melbourne hardcore goofballs Dregg are hitting back with their newest single, 'Ridiculous'.

Keen-eyed viewers who partake in this new song's accompanying music video will note that the characters of 'Nero' from their 'Sorry Daddy' film clip as well as 'Frank' from their 'Weirdo' music video (whose names I don't think anyone knew outside of the band until now, but whatever) return; both going toe-to-toe in a visual metaphor for the song's theme of ideological stalemate.
For with 'Ridiculous', these groovy locals are hoping to make cheeky light of our world's current climate of political and social discourse, where there can be far too many people being caught up in mere outrage and argumentative action - so much so that actual progress comes to a complete and utter stand still. And because this is Dregg we're talking about here, the quintet have delivered this particular message of distaste via their colorful yet dark parody-based universe, commentating away via a hardcore/hip-hop flavor for any and all listeners willing to indulge in the chaotic sonic and visual trip. Motifs aside, whether or not some sort of shared universe or character crossover was planned right from the start for their music or was just shoehorned in for this recent clip is unclear, I dig it either way.
The music video itself was also directed by local cameraman, Jack Rudder, who in the past has captured some mighty solid footage for the likes of Staunch, Justice For The Damned, among others. Moreover, the latest jam from the wonderfully weird Victorian collective was produced by their newest member, Sam Yates (pictured in the middle above) over at Placid Aggressive studios and was then mixed and mastered by Shane Edwards from Thailand's gorgeous Karma Sound Studios, which includes a CV list of As Paradise Falls, Earth Caller, and way too many more to list here. And I assume that these very people also worked on whatever larger release Dregg have coming in the future - whether that be just an EP or even a full-length record, dare I dream.
However, the only real criticism that I personally have here is that with a mere runtime of 1:14, 'Ridiculous' is actually a ridiculously short song when compared with the band's past two banging, longer-running singles. That being said, a shorter and more succinct Dregg a la 'Get Owt' or 'Riddle Me This' is still a Dregg that I fuck with hard. And hopefully, you do too!
Check out 'Ridiculous' below, ya weirdos.
PC: Lizzie Skyllas - be sure to check out more of her work here. Also, drummer James Heath has the best face-paint of the whole band. Just sayin'.
