Devendra Banhart Confirms Two Bluesfest Sideshows

The avant-garde muso will perform in Sydney and Melbourne

Avant-garde musician Devendra Banhart has confirmed two headline shows to coincide with his appearances at April's Bluesfest.

The acclaimed artist, who has released eight studio albums to date, will perform at the Factory Theatre in Sydney and then at Melbourne's Prince Bandroom the following night. Frontier members can get pre-sale tickets from Monday 2 to Tuesday 3 December, while general sale tickets are available as of Wednesday 4 December.

Banhart's unique style is a difficult one to label, having been described as everything from avant-folk to New Weird America in the past. His latest record Mala has continued Banhart's trend of pushing his own musical boundaries by using borrowed equipment and a second-hand recorder while playing all the instruments featured alongside his producer Noah Georgeson.

His video for Mala's single Für Hildegard von Bingen, inspired by the German-born saint, is another example of Banhart's ability to create a powerful message through his art. Watch it below:
