American nu-metal pioneers Deftones launched into their highly anticipated Australian tour with two nights at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena over the weekend (Saturday, 2 and Sunday, 3 May), and the shows presented were miles apart from one another.

On night one, the Cherry Waves hitmakers highlighted fan favourites both old and new, with equal showings from their albums Around the Fur, Diamond Eyes, and private music—all with four songs apiece performed. The band also pulled from their albums: White Pony (three tracks), Koi No Yokan (two tracks), Saturday Night Wrist (two tracks), Adrenaline (one track), and Ohms (one track).

Night two, meanwhile, kicked off with three songs from last year’s private music and featured seven songs from the album. There was also a cover of The Smiths’ classic, Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want, equal appearances by Around the Fur, Koi No Yokan, and White Pony (three songs each), and a visit to their self-titled album.

You can check out both setlists below.

Following the Sydney shows, Deftones will perform double evenings in Brisbane and Melbourne, taking over the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on Wednesday, 6 and Thursday, 7 May, and Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on Saturday, 9 and Sunday, 10 May.

The tour concludes with one night at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Wednesday, 13 May. You can find remaining tickets to the shows here.

At the time of publication, it’s unclear how different the sets will be for the double evenings in Brisbane and Melbourne from what was performed in Sydney. All we can say is that if you’re a setlist nerd, keep an eye on setlist.fm over the next week.

For the tour, Deftones are joined by special guests Interpol and Ecca Vandal.

Reviewing the show at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Saturday, The Music’s Ben Nicol declared that the energy from Deftones and the audience “was so intense that anyone would have had a hard time distinguishing the new songs from the old. The vibes were so strong and the music so constantly raucous that there were simply no low points in the evening.”
