David Bridie Announces New Album + Tour Plans

Long-serving national treasure David Bridie, best known for his career-making work with Not Drowning, Waving and My Friend The Chocolate Cake has announced the details of his forthcoming seventh studio full-length album, with a five-date national run of shows to support the release this October and November.

The new LP, Take The Next Illusionary Exit, is more technically a collection of Bridie-crafted odds and ends, previously unreleased or limited-release tracks, demos, covers, excerpts from soundtracks. It was originally produced for people who pledged to Bridie’s Pozible-hosted crowdfunding campaign to bring to life 2013 album Wake, and the reward disc was well-received enough by those who heard it to warrant a wider release now.

There are four primary components to Take The Next Illusionary Exit – new songs such as Forbidden Song (Arnold Ap) and Every Night I Hear You Talking (featuring ex-Not Drowning, Waving bandmate John Phillips; soundtrack specials; reworked old favourites such as Kerosene and My Friend The Chocolate Cake’s Mangrove; and the covers, among which you’ll find Bridie-fied versions of Nat King Cole’s Morning Star, Billy Ocean’s Love Really Hurts Without You and The Only Ones’ Another Girl, Another Planet.

Bridie will be launching Take The Next Illusionary Exit live from early next month, when he kicks off his fistful of show dates at Brisbane’s New Globe Theatre on Friday, October 3. From there, he’ll round out the month by dropping into Sydney’s Vanguard and Hobart’s Grand Poobah – tickets for all three of those gigs are available now – before he picks up again a month later, on Saturday, November 29, with a show in Perth and the tour’s final performance at Mojo’s, in Fremantle, on Sunday, November 30.
