Five years on from their last new studio album, Sydney indie-pop-rock favourites Dappled Cities are returning to centre stage with a new single, full-length and string of tour dates.

Although the band released a compilation of B-sides and rarities, Many Roads, in 2014, their fourth and most recent proper LP, Lake Air, landed back in July 2012, so suffice to say that fans of the veteran outfit will be mighty keen to get their hands on the new album, revealed to be titled IIIII (Five), with a scheduled May release to boot.

The excitement for the new record has been growing since at least May last year, when we were graced with a first taste in the form of That Sound, though they've been working on it since January 2015.

Dappled Cities have now upped the ante with follow-up cut Stone Men, a dreamily lush, synth-laden jam that blends the electronic and organic together with the kind of intelligence and maturity that can only come from the kind of experience these dudes have accrued over the years.

The single is set for release this Friday, 24 February, via Spotify, Apple Music and other digital retail outlets.

If you're into it, you can rest assured that your wait is almost over to reacquaint yourself more broadly with the wonderment of Dappled Cities: IIIII will be released on Friday 5 May via Chugg Music/MGM, and the band set off for their run of live shows in support of the album immediately afterwards.

So far there are three gigs on the cards, starting in Melbourne on Saturday 6 May, heading up to The Foundry, Brisbane, the following week, and finishing with a yet-to-be-revealed date in their home town, so if you're a Sydney local, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for news on that front over the next few weeks.

Otherwise, tickets for the shows are on sale now; head to theGuide for all the details.
