Dappled Cities ProfileSydney-born indie-rock outfit Dappled Cities have quietly begun work on the follow-up album to 2012's fourth full-length effort Lake Air and 2014's rarities compilation Many Roads, keeping the faithful updated on the process through a series of in-studio photos and videos posted to Facebook over the past week or so.
As the band prepares to make a live appearance this Australia Day at the Vic On The Park Hotel, in Marrickville, they're making sure those of us eagerly awaiting LP #6 are kept in the loop. For example, thanks to Dappled Cities' conscientious social media activity, we know that recording got off to a rocky start…
... and that the record is inspired "somewhere between fretless bass-era Joni Mitchell and 311". Meanwhile, after frontman Dave Rennick's unfortunate pool-related mishap, it seems that proceedings swung back towards great success...
...a little bit of studio fashion...
...a dash of three-handed keyboard experimentalism...
...a smattering of superstition...
...and vocals to get you naked.
From the pics, it should be a hell of an album, if they ever get any work done; keep an eye on Dappled Cities' Facebook page for their real-time adventures in the studio and, hopefully, it shouldn't be too long until we have some fresh goods to enjoy. As the band so succinctly put it in their new year's post: "Someone's gotta fill the hole Bluejuice is leaving."
