Damien Rice ProfileIrish singer-songwriter Damien Rice is returning to Australia in early 2027, visiting as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of his beloved debut album, o.
Presented by Frontier Touring, Chugg Entertainment and Gaynor Crawford, Rice will perform in two Australian cities, completing a 25-city run commemorating the 25th anniversary of o. His Australian shows take place at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Tuesday, 9 February, and two nights at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall on Thursday, 11 and Friday, 12 February.
Frontier Members can access pre-sale tickets on Thursday, 22 October, from 10 am AEDT, followed by the general sale on Friday, 23 October, at 10 am AEDT. You can find more ticketing information via the Frontier Touring website.
Self-released on his own label in February 2002, o was written, recorded and produced at home. The album was funded by a loan from Rice’s father, and it didn’t need to be repaid if it was finished. Plus, Rice had the extra backing from composer David Arnold, who came to the recording process with equipment and belief.
While Rice thought o would be the only album he’d ever make, he has released two more: 2006’s 9 and 2014’s My Favourite Faded Fantasy. But, throughout his career, o has stood the test of time, and the songs have continuously travelled with Rice.
Upon Rice’s last stops in Australia, which included an evening at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre, The Music’s Christopher Lewis remarked that the singer remains a “masterful performer.”
Lewis wrote, “He has a voice that is unmatched in his generation of folk singers and his small collection of songs have retained their quiet majesty in the 20 years since they were released.”
