“Courtney's presentation is so beautifully endearing and lifts my original to another plain."
The star-studded Kev Carmody tribute album arrives next week, and ahead of its release, local legend Courtney Barnett has shared a video of her cover of Just For You.
Barnett’s cover is just one of many featured across the upcoming and updated reissue of 2007’s Cannot Buy My Soul, an album that pays tribute to the Australian icon with new covers from Kasey Chambers & Jimmy Barnes, Mo’Ju & Birdz (produced by Trials), Kate Miller-Heidke, Alice Skye, Archie Roach, Electric Fields and more.
Carmody has described Just For You as a “love song that I’ve directed at everybody, for everybody”.
“It’s trying to get right to the core to say even though we have our disagreements and stuff, I still love you all very much, and I love you as an individual very much,” he said.
“Courtney's presentation is so beautifully endearing and lifts my original to another plain. Her woman's presentation puts a whole new perspective on the original lyrics.”

The new video was directed by album producer Sian Darling and features a special guest from Barnett’s dog, Rosa.
“Uncle Kev says that these are simple lyrics trying to get right to the core, that it's a love song directed at everybody,” Darling said.
“I want the video to illustrate the power from the simplicity of Uncle Kev's lyrics and intentions, and the exceptional tenderness in Courtney's expression of them.”
The Cannot Buy My Soul reissue is out August 21 via EMI Recorded Music.
