Courtney BarnettAfter some teasing on social media, Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett has announced that she’s releasing a new album in March.
Her forthcoming record, Creature Of Habit, will be released on Friday, 27 March, via Fiction Records. In May, she’s set to tour across the US. At the time of publication, no Australian dates have been announced.
Creature Of Habit was born out of a period of change. Opening a new musical chapter for Barnett, the emotionally resonant album was written in the wake of Barnett’s move from Australia to Los Angeles and the closure of her long-running record label, Milk! Records. Those changes had Barnett grappling with the future of her career, which was brought directly into the recording of the album.
In addition to the album announcement, Barnett has unveiled the new single, Site Unseen, the follow-up to the fiery Stay In Your Lane. While Site Unseen contains messages of “letting go,” it’s extra personal as it features harmonies from one of her favourite singers, Katie Crutchfield of Waxahatchee fame.
“I tried 3 separate times over 2 years to track this song, and each time it either wasn’t finished or didn’t sound right, and each time we had to start again,” Barnett said. “I kept hearing this really high harmony in my head, so for the fourth and final version, I asked Katie if she’d be into singing it with me. I’m a big Waxahatchee fan. I really love Katie’s songwriting and her voice, so it was an honour to have her sing on Site Unseen.”
