Two Paramore fans got engaged at the band’s show in Birmingham, England, on Saturday, 22 April, with vocalist Hayley Williams giving it up for “true love”.
A fan was given a microphone during the show at Utilita Arena. He began the proposal by quoting Paramore songs: “You’re the only exception. All I wanted was you. You’re my last hope. The only thing I know that’s keeping me alive.
“So, will you please give me the honour of being your husband one day? Will you marry me?” His partner said yes, to the delight of the packed audience. View some footage below.
Williams responded, “Give it up for true love. Oh my god, I didn’t think I was going to cry this early into the show. Congratulations. That was beautiful; thank you for letting us all be a part of that. I told you this was family, right?”

Paramore’s 2017 album, After Laughter, and Williams’ 2020 and 2021 solo albums, Petals For Armor and Flowers For Vases / Descansos, delve into her divorce with New Found Glory’s Chad Gilbert and, subsequently, moving forward.
“I just haven’t had a good enough relationship with myself to receive pure and simple stuff, like romantic relationships. I’ve been in therapy now since we got home from [touring in support of Paramore’s 2017 album] After Laughter, and I still go every week,” she said in an interview with Zane Lowe in 2021. Williams confirmed that she was dating Paramore guitarist Taylor York last September.
In February, Paramore released their first album since After Laughter; This Is Why.
The American band returned after a lengthy hiatus in September, releasing the title track and their first new song since 2017. Recorded in Los Angeles, California, with long-time collaborator Carlos de la Garza, This Is Why features ten new Paramore songs with cover art shot by Zachary Gray.
Paramore performed at the inaugural When We Were Young festival last year - where fans witnessed All I Wanted's live debut.
This Is Why debuted at the top of the ARIA Albums and Vinyl Albums Chart in its first week. This Is Why is Paramore's third #1 album in Australia, following Brand New Eyes (2009) and Paramore (2013).
After Laughter debuted at #3, their 2005 debut, All We Know Is Falling, failed to chart here but eventually received a Gold certification. Riot! (2007) is also certified Gold in Australia and peaked at #47 upon release.
