There is nothing like an afternoon spent at The Three Brothers Arms, an afternoon that drifts easily into evening, ensconced in the sunken, grassy plane that sits amongst the gently swelling hills. There is no better place to watch the sun sink and the sky change colour than in the back garden of The Three Brothers Arms, beer-soaked, warm, perhaps sleepy after consuming a late pub lunch.

The Macclesfield venue is well worth the drive. It is a classic Adelaide Hills setting: scenic and easy-going. It is not only reportedly the oldest pub in the Adelaide Hills - it is one of less than a handful of pubs that still operates under its original license. This rich sense of history alone marks the venue as one to visit.

The Three Brothers Arms is also a legendary music venue to boot. The pub boasts live music every weekend - but there is one particular upcoming weekend to watch out for.

The Three Brothers Arm is hosting the inaugural High Fever Festival on Saturday, February 8th.

Run by Todd Bennett of Sixteen Hands High (the events and artist management collective), the festival boasts a line-up of six of Adelaide’s coolest “psych blues noir” bands on one stage. (Bennett has previously seen major success with events such as Ramblin’ Moon Revue, the travelling live music road show, and OUTLAW’D, the mini-fest that took place in Goolwa. Both events sold out.)

The festival kicks off from 3 pm on February 8th, and features such acts as desert highway trippers Los Palms, fresh off their whirlwind European tour, ‘cursed blues & psychedelic rock’ outfit The Dainty Morsels, cowboy-noir band Brave Mistakes, kaleidoscopic wild-child My Chérie, dynamic two-piece The Danger Dolphins, and blues-folk-rock ‘n’ roll wonder Bebe Jones.

The setting to witness all of these talents onstage will be dreamy, idyllic - and to further encourage the trip, free overnight camping will be available at The Three Brothers Arms or at the nearby Crystal Lake Park.

If all goes according to plan, Bennett is hoping to host Volume II of High Fever Festival in the winter.

Tickets are now available for purchase online. It is additionally worth noting that a limited number of special half-price “Community Tickets” are available to help offset cost of living pressures.

It’s time to fuel up your automobiles and get ready for the drive to Macclesfield.
