Coldplay Debut At #1 As Triple J Gives Chart Bumps

British band Coldplay have landed their fifth Australian number one record in a week where triple j's One Night Stand gave a significant boost to artists that played the event.

Coldplay's Ghost Stories – a break up album based around their frontman Chris Martin's divorce – has debuted at number one, keeping out Michael Jackson's posthumous Xscape, which climbs to two.

With the next debut coming from country veterans Rascal Flatts at 17 with Rewind, the other main story was the 'triple j effect' – as predicted in midweek figures.

RÜFÜS's Atlas moved from 50 to eight after playing the One Night Stand event in Mildura (in the middle of their own tour), with Illy's Cinematic up to 21 from 51. Violent Soho, who keep selling out shows on their own tour, moved from 40 to 30.

Other Aussies in the form of Boy & Bear had a strong week with their record Harlequin Dream benefiting from a tour announce to jump from 64 to 14.

In the ARIA Singles chart post-hardcore favourites The Amity Affliction were this week's top debut, with Don't Lean On Me debuted at 24. Justice Crew's hit Que Sera kept top spot for a third straight week, making it their longest ever running number one.
