The band will play two intimate gigs this June to welcome 'Rainbow City'
Beloved Sydney outfit Cloud Control have released their luscious new single, Rainbow City, announcing a pair of special launch shows in Melbourne and Sydney next month to help welcome the tune.
The band will take to the stages at Howler and Oxford Art Factory in early June, giving the new song and a selection of old favourites and new favourites-to-be an airing ahead of their forthcoming third full-length album — their first since 2013's acclaimed sophomore, Dream Cave.
Rainbow City is their first new release since the departure of co-founder Jeremy Kelshaw, and finds the band having adjusted course and settled into their new composition as a trio, layering contrapuntal vocals atop the song's gradually widening instrumental underpinnings, which include a drum track by vocalist/keyboardist Heidi Lenffer and an outro line recorded on a grand piano belonging to late Australian artist Arthur Boyd.
The song was self-produced by lead vocalist Alister Wright, who describes it as being "about losing things … I think everyone knows what it feels like when you lose something".

"We were all in a house on the south coast, Heidi was on drums, [usual drummer] Ulrich [Lenffer] manning the desk, and we just started jamming," Wright explained of the song in a statement. "Later on, we finished it in Sydney with our dear friend MT [Michael Tomlinson, ex-Yves Klein Blue]."
The tune is out now through Ivy League Records, with tickets for the upcoming launches going on sale from 9am this Wednesday, 3 May.
