Eora-based soul and blues artist CINTA is a powerhouse in every sense of the word and on her new single Walls, her voice soars ferociously, sinking her teeth into the gritty, confrontational relationship between the dark and light within us.

Walls is a follow-up to the infectious, upbeat funk and soul track DO YOU LOVE ME, CINTA’s only other single release this year. Both singles are expected to appear on her sophomore project WORTH CONTROL which releases on Friday the 22nd of November

On Walls, the backing vocals and harmonies that surround the lead vocals are almost haunting, intentionally made to replicate the “clouded thoughts of a stormy mind”. CINTA croons over subtle but impactful drum and piano melodies, funky basslines, celestial electric guitar, and sleek horns, with each individual component of the song having its moment to tell the story of Walls. The track is tied together by CINTA’s effortless, soul-enriching vocals that at some moments are powered by warbles filled with longing and desire, and at other times belted at the top of her lungs. In a press release, CINTA speaks on the song’s inspiration, recalling the internal conflict that occurs within all of us as humans.

“The song explores the relationship between the dark and the light within,” she said.

“It delves into the struggle between these two sides—how the ego, driven by fear and self-preservation, often holds us back, keeping that ‘freedom fighter’ within at bay. Walls captures that internal battle of vulnerability versus protection.”

Inspired by the works of other powerful women and wordsmiths in music like Lauryn Hill, Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu and Sade, Walls encapsulates a state of being within the female consciousness – one full of love, pain, ongoing battle and devotion.

CINTA – along with her band – have become staples in the Sydney music scene, bringing commanding and evocative soul, funk and jazz music onto local live stages. Following the release of Walls, they will be playing a double headline tour with fellow soul singer Ella Haber this October and November. Sydney audiences can see them at Mary’s Underground on Saturday the 26th of October, before they head over to Thirroul Heritage Hall on Saturday the 2nd of November, and finish up at Melbourne’s The Evelyn Hotel on Saturday the 23rd of November, a day after the release of her album WORTH CONTROL.
