They will be lecturing, DJing and performing all over the country this month.
The multimedia art collective that is Chicks on Speed are back in Australia promoting their new project Scream, which coincides with an album release of the same name due later this year. COS came to fame with Australian audiences back in 2003 for their collaboration with Peaches on the song We Don't Play Guitars, earning them the 84th spot in Triple J's Hottest 100 of that year.
Over their 15 year career they have experimented with all manner of forward thinking music, fashion and art, which helped spawn their own fashion brand Gesamtkunstwerk, and they have also produced soundtracks for the catwalk shows of fashion heavy weights Jeremy Scott and Karl Lagerfeld.
Drawing on their experience in these fields, Melissa Logan and Alex Murray-Leslie from the group have collaborated with Kiley Gaffney (QUT Brisbane) and Erica Lewis (Plast Her Oy, Paris, The Blow Waves) to help manufacture their Objekt Instruments - an innovation merging science, art and fashion, in the form of self-made, sculptural, wearable, acoustic objects - such as the E Shoe, which is a wearable wireless high heeled guitar shoe. These creations - which have been praised globally as just the right amount of crazy- will be on show at various museums as a part of the Scream Australia Tour.
Catch them performing either DJ shows, lectures, or artist-in residence gigs at the following venues.
