'Look Out Melbourne': Cherry Bar Finally Has A Reopening Date

"Cherry Bar Melbourne lives on, rocks on and rides on."

Melbourne institution Cherry Bar has revealed it will be reopening just in time for the festive season.

After months of red tape, the venue took to Facebook to apologise for the wait and reveal they had finally settled and been handed the keys to the new location.

“When Cherry closed back in July, personally I began to feel that without Cherry I was fading into invisibility," owner and booker James Young told The Music exclusively today.

"By November when Grinspoon and Dandy Warhols were complaining to me about Cherry not being open I began to realise that international artists were missing Cherry. Then, over the Melbourne Cup weekend when I went out and was besieged by punters asking, 'When the fuck is Cherry re-opening and where?!' I then understood that all of Melbourne was suffering while Cherry was closed.

"I’m so sorry it took this long. But we have settled on the perfect new location. The old Pony in Little Collins Street. It’s only 400 metres from the old Cherry, which means Cathy Freeman can get from the old to the new Cherry Bar in 48 seconds!

"We open in the first week of December. We will be open seven nights a week with live local music every night. What a relief to confirm to Melbourne and the world that Cherry Bar is back and with a 260 capacity and 24-hour licence, we are back bigger and better than ever. Let there be rock!”
