Awful news for the comedy duo.

US comedy act Cheech & Chong have today cancelled their Australian shows due to kick off this week after it has been revealed that Tommy Chong has been diagnosed with cancer.

The duo were set to perform their first show tonight in Queensland, however all dates have now been called off.

An official statement released today read: ..."due to a serious health issue the upcoming Cheech & Chong Up In Smoke – The Greatest Hits Tour has been cancelled."

Chong revealed in an interview with US Weekly yesterday that he is currently undergoing treatment for rectal cancer: "I'm using cannabis like crazy now, more so than ever before."

"I'm in treatment now. I've been — just the case either way, either I get healed or I don't."

Taking to his Twitter earlier today, Chong kept his signature wit intact when he made the unfortunate announcement to his fans: "...the cancer came back and it's a real pain in the butt...the good news is I now have to use more marijuana to treat the cancer."

It is the second time in three years Chong has been diagnosed with cancer, after he battled prostate cancer in 2012.
