Fast-rising pop stalwart Carla Wehbe has revealed the long-awaited launch of her very own clothing label, Space Cowboy, with the first drop available to pre-order right the heck now.

According to Wehbe herself, the brand “take[s] inspiration from the eras before us, but with their own flair”, sparking from the artist’s love for vintage styles and her keenness to tell a story through the visuals of a unique artform.

“I am beyond excited to start this adventure and share Space Cowboy with the world,” she said in a press release, noting that she first had the idea for the brand some seven years ago in 2017: “I found myself almost liking so many clothes, but there was always SOMETHING I wished was a little different whether it was the fit, colours or smaller details.”

As for the name Space Cowboy and its accompanying visual identity, Webhe cited her “love for seeing concepts that shouldn’t make sense together, make the most sense.” She added: “Combining two worlds I loved (I've always loved space and grew up riding horses) seemed the perfect fit. Growing up I also LOVED Toy Story, and Woody and Buzz are the space[man]/cowboy duo that I also took inspiration from.”

Space Cowboy officially launched yesterday (May 28) with its first collection, The Big Bang, available to pre-order for the next week via the brand’s website. The drop comprises seven gender-neutral pieces – two T-shirts, two pairs of shorts, a pair of jeans, a hoodie and a trucker cap – all designed by Webhe in Sydney and produced by a small, independent factory in California.

The brand also has a core ethos of ethical sustainability: the clothes are made using environmentally conscious materials, with no plastic materials used at any point in the process (including delivery to customers), and all of the mailers are made with 100 percent recycled materials.

Wehbe also spoke about Space Cowboy in a 2023 interview with TheMusic.com.au, saying of her longstanding passion for fashion: “I've always loved fashion and clothing. I didn't know what was fashionable, but I just loved clothes. Like, I have an obsession with clothes. I have way too many clothes.

“It would actually make you sick if you saw how many clothes I own. So yeah, I've always had that interest. And I just thought, it can go hand in hand with my music – I'm just going to stick to this one. I always come up with so many different business ideas, and I never follow through, and I was like, not this one; I'm following through. So it's finally happening!”

Meanwhile, Wehbe’s most recent musical release was the standalone single Sideshow, which arrived last month as her first new song for the year. Upon its release, she described the track as “the spectacle, drama, and unnecessary dramatisation that someone makes of a situation”.

She explained further: “It’s about swerving the situation, whether it be a friendship or relationship, because you know it’s not for you, and their reaction being all the confirmation you needed that you made the right choice. Breakups of any kind can get messy, and sideshow is about the circus of breakups.”
