The WA music scene is thriving.

More Feels More Feels

WA music’s night of nights, the 2018 WAMAwards has once again highlighted the state’s thriving music scene, with electronic duo Feels and rising singer-songwriter Carla Geneve among those claiming multiple awards, while Abbe May, Tame Impala and more picked up gongs.

Feels, aka Elise Reitze-Swensen and Rosie Taylor, walked away with Best Live Electronic Act and Best Electronic Producer, while their label, WOMPP (Women Of Music Production Perth), picked up Label Of The Year, and Geneve won Best Rock Act and Best Single for Greg’s Discount Chemist.

Moving to the East Coast earlier this year to work for the ABC, former RTRFM breakfast host Caitlin Nienaber was awarded both Industry Representative of the Year and the Golden WAMi, while Dixie Battersby (DB Publicity) and local rock icons The Stems were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Meanwhile, beloved WA live music venue Mojo’s Bar picked up Most Popular Venue for the fifth year in row, as voted by the public via theMusic.com.au. The Publicly Voted categories also saw wins for Tame Impala (Most Popular Act), Psychedelic Porn Crumpets (Most Popular Live Act), Falls Festival (Most Popular Music Event) and Wooly Mammoth (Most Popular New Act).

This year relocating to The Hyatt Regency, the sold-out event featured performances from The Stems, award winners Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse, Geneve, Hyclass and nominees Gemma Farrell Quintet, Your Girl Pho, and Ralway Bell.
