Be still, our beating hearts
Flying Nun Records stalwarts and welcome return visitors The Courtneys will be leaving their homes in Canada for a string of Australian tour dates this August to support their sensational second album, The Courtneys II.
The Minnesota scribes will be kicking off their five-date run in Ballarat on Wednesday 23 August, scooting through Melbourne, Byron Bay, Perth (their first-ever performance in the city) and wrapping up in style at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory.
The local tour will come on the heels of their recently wrapped tour of UK and Europe, which lasted just shy of a month, bringing their brand of sunny, self-assured grungy power-pop goodness to their continental fans. If nothing else, it'll have been an excellent primer and warm-up ahead of their upcoming sojourn to the south in a couple months' time.
The Courtneys II landed through Flying Nun back in February, and picked up widespread critical and fan acclaim pretty much instantaneously. Our man Steve Bell described it in his four-star review as "an uplifting, feel-good wedge of dreamy lo-fi bubblegum garage-punk, swathed in distortion and sloppy in feel but never in execution".
