Michael HutchenceA campaign has launched for a statue of late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence to be erected in Sydney next year to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the singer's death.
Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts have all been activated in recent months, proposing the statue be built in the singer's hometown and in the same precinct as the International Convention Centre, set to open this December.
The campaign has also been endorsed by Hutchence's half sister, Tina Hutchence.
"Michael is without doubt the greatest Australian performer of his generation whose body of work continues to touch lives around the globe," a Facebook post from campaign organisers reads.
"We are proposing a bronze statue be commissioned in honour of this iconic Australian performer, to be placed in the precinct that will house the new Sydney Entertainment centre, with your support we can make this happen!"
Earlier this month, the grand nephew of Hutchence also threw his support behind the cause.

The news comes on the back of Sydney entrepreneur Ron Creevey stating plans to release previously unheard tracks by Hutchence, as well as a documentary, over the coming months.
