Much-loved US comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine drew to a close last week, with the squad going out for one last heist and a big trip down memory lane for the fans to bid farewell to the 99th precinct.

After a rocky start to their eight and final season, the show came together for a huge double-length finale, with a cavalcade of returning favourite characters like Gina Linetti, Caleb The Cannibal, Cheddar the dog and many more.

However, the show also managed to pull one last surprise for keen-eyed viewers with a special cameo from musician Joanna Newsom as "acclaimed" cellist Caroline Saint-Jacques Renard.

Newsom, who is married to show's star Andy Samberg (aka Jake Peralta), literally popped out of a box for the stint, during one of the yearly and always-anticipated heist episodes.

This isn't the first time the pair have shown up on film together.

Newsom also had a bit part in Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The 2016 comedy film was created by Samberg and his fellow Lonely Island members Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccome, and featured Newsom playing the role of Steam Punk Doctor.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine's series finale aired last week on SBS. You can catch up with the episode via SBS On Demand.
