Britney Spears' Father Has Officially Been Suspended From Conservatorship Role

A US judge handed down the ruling this morning.

Britney Spears has been officially released from her conservatorship - after a lengthy court battle with her father, Jamie.

LA judge Brenda Perry made the ruling early this morning - calling the conservatorship "untenable."

“I believe that the suspension [of Mr Spears] is in the best interest of the conservatee, Ms Britney Spears,” Perry said whilst delivering the verdict. "It reflects a toxic environment which requires the suspension of Jamie Spears, effective today."

The news comes just two days after the new documentary, Britney Vs Spears, premiered on Netflix. The film chronicles several years of Spears' career, and the events leading up to the very public downfall from working with her father.

The singer was not present at the hearing, but her appointed lawyer, Matthew Rosengart, spoke on her behalf. While no official statement has been made from either Rosengart or the popstar at this time, a number of documents from the lawyer have been made public.

“Mr Spears was, of course, never fit to serve, for all of the many compelling reasons already contained in the record," Rosengart wrote. "Ranging from his lack of financial acumen, to his bankruptcy, to his reported alcoholism, to the trauma he caused his daughter since childhood, to the Domestic Violence Restraining Order recently issued against him.”
