The Queensland three-piece just scored a massive coup despite having existed for less than a year

More Good Boy More Good Boy

Brisbane-bred trio Good Boy have received a massive gift to celebrate the imminence of their first anniversary as a band, winning this year's triple j Unearthed St Jerome's Laneway Festival competition to perform in the opening slot at 2016's event.

The boys will take to the stage at Brisbane Showgrounds on Saturday 6 February — coincidentally enough, frontman Rian King's birthday — while the date has been given yet another celebration-worthy aspect with the news that the band's recent single Transparency has been granted full rotation status at triple j.

It's a hell of a cut — its launch show even sold out — and provides enough of a tantalising treat to keep ears and eyes fixated upon this ascendant outfit as they continue working on their debut EP, due for release in early 2016. Having already garnered airplay not only on the j's but the likes of 4ZZZ, Triple R and FBi Radio, not to mention consistently enthused reviews of their live shows, Good Boy are well and truly primed to make 2016 their breakthrough year.
