Brookside Music Centre to become Sanity

Independent Brisbane record store Brookside Music Centre will close at the end of June after confirming a deal that will see music chain Sanity take control.

Located in Brookside Shopping Centre in suburban Brisbane, as of February the store had been owned and operated by husband and wife Gary and Chris Marsh for 20 years.

In a statement they wrote, “This was an extremely difficult decision to make as Brookside Music is a family business… I guess timing is everything though and Gary and Chris have been looking towards their retirement and starting the next chapter of their lives together.”

They said they were “very grateful that another music store will follow in our footsteps” and invited customers to be part of their closing down sale, which will see all of their stock cleared at bargain prices before July.

Messages of support have been posted on social media, including one from Powderfinger's Ian Haug who wrote, “bummer that the store is closing… I will miss my visits. Always great service and range. Good luck with everything in the future!”

While fellow Brisbane store Kill The Music closed earlier this year there are still a number of independently-run record stores in Brisbane, including the Rocking Horse and Record Exchange in the city, Egg Records and Jet Black Cat in west end, Tym Guitars and Butter Beats in the valley, Rockaway in Carindale, Woody's at Logan and Vital Juices in Redcliffe.
