Queensland Band MZAZA Transform Album Into Theatrical Live Show
‘The Birth And Death Of Stars’ will come to life at 21 theatres across Australia.

Brisbane-based multilingual band MZAZA is taking their acclaimed album, The Birth And Death Of Stars, from studio success to the live stage with captivating theatrical contributions on the horizon.
Recorded in Greece, led by French frontwoman Pauline Maudy, and made visual by Finnish animator Laura Matikainen, MZAZA’s latest production fuses a plethora of international influences into Australia’s regional theatres, blending a taste of historical voyage with home soil.
Inspired by mythology and philosophy, MZAZA describes the project as a deep dive into “what links us to each other and the world around us”.
The live adaptation, featuring a blend of music, collage animation projections, and poetic narration, showcases MZAZA’s unique fusion of world music and theatrical performance.
While MZAZA is a name known mainly to the trained ear of folk and world fans, the band have nabbed a series of awards for their work on The Birth And Death Of Stars, winning Best Folk Album for the project at the Australian Folk Music Awards in 2021.

The album’s introductory song, The Ether, would also go on to win the Queensland Music Award for Best Song (World category) in 2021. Lead vocalist Pauline Maudy, who also penned the theatrical narrative, integrates her multilingual English and French lyrics into a compelling visual and auditory journey.
The national tour, which debuted in August and continues to run until October 2024, will include a complete theatrical production at the North Australian Festival of Arts in Townsville on September 26 and a concert version at Stanthorpe Civic Centre on October 12.
In addition to their performances, Mzaza will hold community workshops, demonstrating their commitment to collaborating with local musicians and singers.
