Owners of the Melbourne nightclub Revolver Upstairs – affectionately referred to as “Revs” by punters – have issued a statement saying they’re “heartbroken” following a violent incident that took place in the club yesterday morning (15 September). The nightclub will temporarily close during the “initial stages” of the situation.
The Age reports that police were called to the nightclub’s location in Prahran, Victoria, at about 4 am on Sunday after hearing reports about two people attacking a man inside and fleeing from the scene.
A 31-year-old man has sustained “life-threatening injuries” and is in critical but stable condition as of last night, with police stating that it’s believed a knife and machete were the weapons used against the man.
Police said in a statement: “A 31-year-old Endeavour Hills man sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“The pair of offenders fled the area before police arrived, [and were] last seen heading along Macquarie Street. It is believed a knife and a machete were the weapons used.”
Revolver Upstairs would typically stay open for 24 hours on a Sunday, but an event that was due to take place starring Bag Raiders and other DJs was cancelled.

Venue management posted on Instagram yesterday, writing:
We are heartbroken by the violent incident that took place at Revolver Upstairs this morning. Our thoughts are with all of those affected by this terrible event.
Our highest priority has always been the safety of our patrons, artists and staff. We have made the decision to close the venue while we are working through the initial stages of this situation.
Revolver has always been committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all.
We thank the first responders and community for their work and support during this time.
Revolver Upstairs
Revolver Upstairs is a beloved hotspot of music and community in Melbourne, and has even hosted some iconic events like Fred again.. crashing the nightclub and putting on a surprise show in March.
Appearing at Revs at around 9 am, the UK producer hosted a secret show, getting fans jumping up and down (and filming) Delilah (pull me out of this) at Revs for a morning rave.
